In February of 1998, John Huston topped the leaderboard once again, making headlines in the paper as well:
Huston sets Tour record in Hawaii
HONOLULU - John Huston rewrote the PGA Tour record book in giving the final Hawaiian Open a fitting sendoff. Huston shot a closing 66 Sunday to finish with a 28-under-par 260, breaking the 27-under mark. In placing an exclamation point on the final Hawaiian Open, which will be replaced by the Sony Classic in Hawaii in 1999, Huston had to roll in a three-foot putt on the 72nd hole to claim the mark. Tom Watson shot a 66 to finish second at 21-under 267 with Trevor Dodds in third.
In 1991, John Huston tied with Andy Bean for the PGA statistics leader for most Eagles, with 15. Huston competed in 97 rounds that year.
He is a member of the Million Dollar Club, and has finished in the Top 50 on the money list several times. 1988 was his first year on the PGA Tour and his career earnings by 1991 had already totaled $1,185,051.

Our hearts were with Huston after he led after the first round at the 1997 Masters, when an unfortunate series of events -- reminiscent of the movie Tin Cup, in which several shots dropped into the water -- wound up taking him out of contention.
